AWARENESS COURSES
Short, focused courses on specific hazards in oil and gas and process operations.
Poseidon Training in-house course. It is not an OPITO course, it is not OPITO-approved and it carries no external accreditation.
Our awareness courses give crews, contractors, supervisors, planners and visitors a clear understanding of a specific hazard and how it is controlled. Each is four hours of instructor-led learning, in our classroom, live online or at your site.
Every course is written and maintained by Poseidon Training against its own training standard. Each one states plainly what it covers, and what it does not qualify you to do.
The courses
Hydrogen Sulphide (H₂S) Awareness
Recognise hydrogen sulphide hazards, understand detection and controls, and respond correctly to an alarm or suspected release.
NORM / LSA Scale Awareness
Recognise where naturally occurring radioactive material builds up in oil and gas equipment, and how it is controlled.
Dropped Objects Awareness & Prevention
Recognise dropped-object hazards, understand how they occur, and apply prevention and control in your own work.
Task Risk Assessment / JSA Awareness
Take an effective part in task risk assessments and JSAs, from breaking down the job to reviewing it when things change.
Process Safety & Major Accident Hazard Awareness
Understand how major accidents develop onshore and offshore, and how barriers, systems and people prevent them.
How the courses work
- Four hours of guided learning, with a maximum of 16 learners.
- No entry requirements.
- In the classroom at the Poseidon Training Centre, live online with an instructor, or at your site.
- Theory-based, using real oil and gas examples, discussion and short activities.
- A final interactive knowledge review that checks understanding. There is no pass mark and no score.
- A Poseidon Training Certificate of Completion, with a recommended validity of two years.

No. Each course ends with an interactive knowledge review. There is no pass mark and no score. It lets the instructor confirm your understanding and clear up anything that is unclear.
Yes. Every awareness course can be attended live online with an instructor. The content and the four hours are the same as in the classroom.
Yes. Any awareness course can be delivered at your site for your team. Contact us to discuss the arrangements.
No. They give you awareness of the hazard. Your site induction, your employer's procedures and any task-specific training still apply.
