AGT: Authorised Gas Tester
Initial training for personnel preparing for the Authorised Gas Tester role: gas testing for oxygen, flammable and toxic gases, including the requirements associated with confined spaces.
What AGT is.
Before hot work starts or anyone enters a confined space, someone has to establish what the atmosphere actually contains. AGT is the OPITO standard that prepares personnel for that role: conducting gas tests for oxygen levels and for flammable and toxic gases safely, and understanding what the readings mean for the work.
The training covers gas testing within confined spaces and the hazards associated with them, the relevant legislative requirements, gas measuring and monitoring equipment, and the documentation of gas test results.
Who it is for.
Personnel preparing to work as Authorised Gas Testers. In the workplace, persons undertaking standby or safety-watch duties at the entrance to a confined space are required to be an Authorised Gas Tester or a Gas Monitor, so the standard also serves personnel heading toward those duties. There are no entry requirements.

- The principles, selection and correct use of gas measuring and monitoring equipment.

From training to appointment.
AGT is the initial step. OPITO's position is that learners progress from this training to further workplace training and workplace competence assessment before formal appointment as an Authorised Gas Tester. Employers should plan for that workplace stage; the certificate itself is valid for three years.

Delivered at the Poseidon Training Centre in Na Jomtien, Thailand, instructor-led online, or on location.
Knowledge for the gas tester role.
Poseidon's AGT delivery is knowledge-based. The training covers the safe principles of gas testing for oxygen, flammable and toxic gases; hot-work preparation; confined-space gas testing; gas monitoring; relevant permits, PPE and operating instructions; and the selection, principles and use of gas-detection equipment. No practical gas-testing exercise is included in Poseidon's AGT delivery.
