The Poseidon Simulator
Poseidon built its own simulation environment for one purpose: to exercise the judgement of the people who will command real emergencies.

You cannot rehearse an emergency in a lecture.
Emergency management competence is a performance skill. It is built the way performance skills are always built: by doing the task, under conditions that feel real, often enough for good habits to form.
Simulation makes that possible without waiting for a real incident. A scenario can escalate, information can arrive incomplete, and a team can make its decisions, live with the consequences, and then examine them honestly in debrief. That is the Practice in Planning, Practice, Performance.

Scenarios that develop
Exercises are not static case studies. Facilitators run scenarios that escalate and change, so teams must reassess as the situation moves.

Emergency management teams work their real roles: establishing priorities, making decisions and maintaining control as events unfold.
Communications that compete for attention
Information arrives the way it does in a real emergency: from multiple directions, at inconvenient moments, and rarely complete. Teams practise managing it.
A changing operational picture
Facilitators can introduce changing operational conditions that participants must interpret and respond to as the scenario develops.
People, muster and logistics
Scenarios exercise the human dimension of an emergency: personnel accounting, muster and the logistics decisions that support the response.
Structured debrief and appraisal
Every exercise ends in structured feedback, so performance becomes evidence a team and its organisation can act on.
Where the simulator fits.
The simulator supports Poseidon's emergency management programmes. It is used within MEMIR delivery and for formal OIMCE and CROER assessment.
Exercise your real emergency organisation
Poseidon runs emergency management exercises for client organisations. Exercises can be developed around a client's own emergency response plans and procedures, with company-specific scenarios used to exercise emergency management teams and response arrangements.
