For a lot of people who need MEMIR, the hardest part is not the training. It is the geography: getting released from rotation, travelling, and being away for the best part of a week. Online delivery removes the travel from that equation, which is why it matters, and why it is worth understanding properly before you book.
What stays the same
The standard. Poseidon's online MEMIR option is delivered against the applicable requirements for OPITO product 7228. The OPITO Product requirements remain the same. Learners complete the required learning and appraisal outcomes, including acting as Emergency Manager in a minimum of two different emergency scenario simulations and participating in the required post-exercise debriefing and feedback. Nothing about attending remotely reduces what the standard requires of the learner: MEMIR remains a demanding, scenario-led programme, not a passive webinar.
What changes
The delivery. Instead of a classroom and a physical exercise environment, you attend through Poseidon's online delivery option.
The delivery environment changes. OPITO Product 7228 permits appropriate software to be used where a learner is remote, provided the Product's facilities, equipment, communication and remote appraisal requirements are met.
Who online delivery is for
MEMIR has no prerequisites. For remote participation, learners must meet the facilities, equipment, communication and professional-environment requirements applicable to remote delivery under OPITO Product 7228. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, or whether remote delivery suits your circumstances, ask before booking; it costs nothing and avoids a wasted enrolment.
What to check before you book
- Your equipment and connection. Remote learners must have hardware and software deemed appropriate by the Centre, reliable connectivity and sufficient audio-visual communication to support the required training and appraisal activities. Technical support must also be available during the programme.
- Your location. Remote appraisal or assessment cannot be conducted from a residential property, hotel room or place of business accessible to the public.
- Your time zone. The programme runs over consecutive days, so check the session times against your local time before committing.
- Your environment. Scenario work needs your full attention. Plan to attend somewhere you can participate without interruption for full sessions.
- Your employer's expectations. If your employer or duty holder has its own position on delivery formats, confirm it before booking rather than after.
