Overview
Rig Command Practice™ is Poseidon's own practice day for candidates about to take the OPITO OIM Controlling Emergencies (OIMCE) assessment at Poseidon Training. It runs the day before the assessment, so the candidate meets the Emergency Command Centre, the simulator and the communications before the day that counts.
It is designed particularly for candidates who are new to the assessment environment or to Poseidon's facilities.
The practice day
- A briefing on the OIMCE criteria and how the assessment runs
- Familiarisation with the Emergency Command Centre, simulator and communications
- Two practice emergency scenarios in the OIM role
- A facilitated debrief after each scenario
- Written feedback on strengths and development points
The candidate receives a Poseidon Training certificate of attendance. Practice feedback does not form part of the formal assessment decision.

Both days run consecutively at the Poseidon Training Centre, Ocean Marina. The employer is notified of the assessment outcome within one working day, with a written report within 14 days. About the OIMCE assessment
Rig Command Practice™ is also available as an option ahead of an OIMCE assessment booked on its own.
Before you arrive
OPITO requires a formal declaration and supporting evidence of readiness from the candidate's employer, using the OIM Duty Holder Declaration. Rig Command Practice™ supports preparation but does not replace this declaration.
